Just left Best Buy and they told me a chrome book would not work to do firmware updates. So I left with a laptop. Are they full of crap?
A Chromebook does not run windows; rather Alphabets ChromeOS. It's really meant for web based "applications" not locally installed like GCC (GHL Control Center) or the firmware update tools.

Thanks! I will let you know how this venture goes later.

Thanks for the quick reply Marco.

Yes chromebooks are super lite weight computers for using web based tools. Doesn't run windows which is used by the software like GCC

Ok, I downloaded the control center zip file and then plugged the controller into my new laptop and nothinghappened. I try to open the zip file and it asks me which app/program to use to open it.

Someone please help me!

You have to unzip it and then run GCC. What options does the computer give you to open it? Most newish laptops have an unzip program on them already.

It allows me to unzip it and then it asks me if I want to open it with internet explorer or if I want to look for an app in the App Store.

How do I run GCC? I have no clue how to do that? Is it supposed to just run automatically when I plug the USB cable from the controller in?

Go to your computer settings for USB and make sure the com port is correct.

Try com 3. Try com 2, com 4, etc... mine is com 3. Like reefwiser says you can actually check in comp settings. Or just try them all
