It is going to take a week to get the skimmer broke in. My question is there somewhere to adjust the air intake?

No unfortunately there isn’t :( Should I just leave it running without the bit that collects the skim? Because that’s getting filled in seconds

I have a Innovative Marine DC nano skimmer that doesn't have any type of air adjustment. The only adjustment it has is raising or lowering it via the bracket where it hangs. Not sure about the make/model of your skimmer.

I have used a zip tie to pinch the inlet of air tubing to reduce the overall flow. I did this when I had a tunze HOB skimmer back in my JBJ 30 days.

Protein Skimmers can take weeks to break in. You may need to turn it down and wait. Depending on its adjustability, you may want to just throw it in a bucket and let it run for a few weeks in the garage.
