HELP!! Rust around eshopps frag rack magnets

I have an acrylic eshopps magnetic frag rack I was thinking about putting back in my tank today. While cleaning it up I realized there is some rust by the magnets that go inside the tank. Should I not put it in the tank now?

I had a tank crash at the end if the year I which I was never able to track down. This was in the tank at the time, and filled with frags that all were lost. With it being empty I removed it, and was going to readd it today. Now i am thinking this may have to do with the crash, but I'm not sure. Any thoughts?

This has happened to all of the submerged magnets on 3 of the 4 eshopps frag racks I own.

You can prevent this with a nasty looking coat of silicone but like I said...Nasty looking

I would contact eshopps about it, but goodluck there customer support is horrible imo.
And no I wouldn't put that anywehere near my tank, let alone in it.

I forgot to mention that is what I did^. I coated them in superglue and/or silicone. It looks rough though.
