While cleaning my tank I noticed this weird sluggish slimy thing one of my rocks and can't figure out what it is for the life of me and don't want to remove it if it's beneficial for my tank! But don't want it in there decaying or whatever that thing is doing in there!!! I am a very established for for 1 year and everything in there livestock wise is doing phenomenal! No anything! So I have no clue what this thing is

Is it safe to keep in my tank? I'm reading they are beneficial to my water quality I've just never seen anything like this and couldn't find anything like it on Google ao I was starting to worry I didnt want it to harm my tank and livestock

Was already on your rock when you introduced it to the system. It’s no problem to keep in the tank and is indeed a filter feeder. If you feel more safe to take it out go ahead, but I wouldn’t :)

Last piece I added was a shelf and I didn't see anything on it lol must have been hiding very well but the size of it now and I've never noticed it and I'm very hands on with my tank after a year...no auto feeding or ato system I do weekly water changes and feed my fish on a schedule it's a 125 gallon

Yeah that was maybe somewhere inside of the rocks where you couldn’t see it. It found itself a spot to reproduce and grow :) Your tank is more mature and stable after 1 year and gives good conditions for more demanding and specific hitchikers like sponges. Nature keeps surprising, doesn’t it :)

I can't see any nudibranches that look like that neither and all my levels are stable and it's never bothered my corals or anything crazy and this was def not on my shelf when I purchased it but if it was the it definitely grew and if it grew doesn't that indicate healthiness? Sorry might be a dumb question and I'm def not trying to insult you in just asking and deciding what's best and if I should leave it or yank it

I know that vetteguy is a lot more experienced than I am, so I would say if you have a doubt, just take it out. It’s better to remove something that is beneficial than keeping something in the tank which can later on cause you a headache. I still lean towards the sponge tho. Does it move or is it just stationary on the rocks?

It hasn't over since I've noticed it yesterday but it looks to be growing or has stuff growing on it
If I were you, I'd just take it off the rocks and put it in a glass cup for further inspection (wear gloves to be safe)

Probably some kind of sponge covering a rubble that was connected but is now separating?
