Hi,

I am kind of new to coral, and have a bunch of frags in my main tank. One of the first corals I bought was a Platygyra (sp?). It has grown a fair amount over time, but has started to get a whiteish maybe grayish tint to it.

I have not really changed anything in the tank in regard to flow or lighting in many months, and this just started happening a few weeks ago.

Is there any way to save it? Any chance it could be "contagious". Should I remove it promptly or try and relocate it in the tank?

Any info would be appreciated.

Here is a picture from a month ago

IME platygyra is very sensitive to changing parameters, especially alkalinity, it can deteriorate quickly if parameters swing. Are you testing regularly, are all parameters stable?

I do have a trident, and I do dose alkalinity, (tropic marin balling part b), but in general the Trident says I am between 7.5-8.0. This could have started when I started dosing. I use Tropic Marin pro reef salt which is on the lower end of alkalinity out of the box, around 7. So I've been dosing over the last few months to try and keep it closer to 8. It had fallen into the mid sixes when I started dosing for the first time. I'm not really chasing numbers, but trying to keep it near a "normal" level.

Do you think 7.5-8.0 is too much of a swing in a week? Or could it just have acclimated to the high 6's, and changing it closer to 8 over the course of maybe a month been a problem?
