Help with BRS GFO single reactor deluxe

I recently purchased the BRS Deluxe (black) GFO/Carbon reactor. I can tell its been helping a lot. today I went to change out the GFO. My issue is I set the sponge in the bottom, and when I went to go turn everything back on the GFO lifts off hte sponge and leaves and inch or so gap between bottom of GFO/Carbon and the sponge. It's not tumbling because its being held in place fairly tight but, even after resetting the sponge it STILL doing the same thing. has anyone else had this issue?

Take the sponge out. I only use the sponges for GAC.

You don't use bottom sponge with GFO. You can use top sponge if you want

sorry I don't think I made it quite clear, I'm using 50/50 Carbon/GFO right now. I'm dealing with Phosphates. using the carbon for good filtration and clarity.

You could run the GFO on bottom and sandwich the carbon between the sponges up top.
