Help with dinoflagellates

If you know what species you have it makes it easier. I had a mixture of Prorocentrum and Ostreopsis. My inline UV took care of the Ostreopsis but Prorocentrum don’t like to leave the sandbed. That is when I started using the sandsweeper. It is basically a shielded UV bulb on a handle that you kill them where they live giving you the advantage when you add the good colonizers. Copepods, Diatoms, bacteria etc.
 
I tried the peppermint shrimp. They are not guaranteed to eat aptasia. Berghia are going to eat aptasia. Otherwise, they will die .
You need to get the right species of peppermint shrimp, there are some that don't care for Aptasia, but the right ones will mow them down 🙂

What does this mean to you? I don't want you to think you need zero or even very low nitrate and phosphate.

If I didn't link it above, here's RHF's advice on parameter concentrations, and many here on R2R are following these guidelines that are a bit higher than what was previously advised. 5.00 ppm to 50 ppm nitrate, and 0.1ppm to 0.3 ppm phosphate. Here's Randy's guide:

It's not so much the species you purchased, it's that the seller will sell any of the species and claim that they all eat Aptasia.

This is because the seller isn't selling the correct shrimp, there's several species, and they may not know what they are getting in. The Nudibranchs work, but they're expensive, and would starve without Aptasia. I know a few R2R members that successfully use peppermints for Aptasia control.

I know about the shrimp and the species. Did my due diligence and compared with the chart I had of the species. So I have the wundermanni, unless the chart is wrong. I know peeps that have had ones that work also. That is why I tried them first this time. Anyways, I will leave it at that.
