Hey gang.
Dealing with possibly the worst infestation of these guys ever.
Have lost 100's of dollars in euphiliya and a holy grail blasto all died within a week of each other.
Anyway, I'm getting thick mats. Rocks covered. Even growing on the glass.
I've bought 5 micron filter socks and vacuumed last night, just skimming the top through the filter sock and returned the water. Less than 24hrs later the sand is completely covered, rocks covered....you get it.
I mean it's so thick in probably 50% or more you can't even see sand grains.
I've been doing the regular thing, dosing phos and nitrate, sponge excel for about a week and a half. I started slow with the S.E but then read it's best to hit it hard and then maintain levels so a few days ago I dosed something like 1.3ppm worth which felt like alot but getting desperate losing corals.
I've since been adding about 20 drops per day in my 100 gal system.
Under a microscope I am seeing some diatoms, but still less than there is dinos. Some samples I don't really see diatoms but my microscope was $40 cad so like $7usd.
Anyway, reading about today i found a very well written article saying uv can help with prorocentrum as they get water borne at some point. I order the 24w green killing machine since I'm poor due to other ridiculously expensive hobbies. I know 24w might be underpowered but it has really good reviews for the price.
Should I keep on gravel vac'ing? I know some people say not to, but like i said these mats are thicc like maple syrup. Am I just hindering it by also sucking up the diatoms?
