The past 10 days I’ve been measuring my Alk and evaporation. After a water change my Alk is 7.5 and right before a water change it’s 7.1. My tank evaporates 0.5 gallons to 0.75 gallons a day. My desired Alk is 8.5. I used a kalk dosing calculator but exactly how do I dose it? I’m planning on dosing 0.5 gallons of kalk a day. Should it be throughout the day or only half a day? Any advise would be appreciated.

IMO...
If its to correct PH, do at night (ooposite light cycle)
if to correct Alk, during the day when its consumed the most......

I would just do it throughout the day....maybe 5 time events on a timer (if auto dose)..378ml x 5 times or so.....

Easiest way for me and I think somewhat Typically of how others do it, is you would start with about 1/2 of your daily evaporation replacment. Assuming you have it hooked up to a doser and then watch your levels and adjust after a few weeks, increasing kalk to ato ratio until you are at 100% of your daily evaporation levels.

I assume you also have an ATO?

If so then your ato would dose ro water about 50% and alk the other 50%, but eventually you could get to where all of your water replacement is coming from your kalk doser.

If you get to where you are completely replacing daily evaporation with kalk and still not at your desired levels, then you would have to look into what else you can do for the desired alk or ph increase.

I dosed over 24 hrs when I ran a 180g on kalk and WCs for several years. i was dosing a bit over 7 liters a day tho which was just a bit less than my evap rate. I dosed for alk and wasn't testing pH at the time.

I don’t understand how much Kalk to add per 0.5 gallons. It’s says to dose 3718 ml but what do I do with this number?

IMO, I would use a dosing pump and separate container...save on having to clean your ATO pump all the time....
1 teaspoon lime to 1 gal RODI is full saturation IIRC

Exactly Why i add IIRC ☺️
I am going to buy a dosing pump but wanted to get the numbers down first.

So just add 1 teaspoon per 1 gallon?

No @FUNGI is correct at 2 teaspoons. My apologies

EDIT: Personally I wouldn't use a stirrer unless you can not keep up with just saturated kalk. It sounds like your new to using kalk so I wouldn't complicate things until if or when necessary. And then there is 2 part but there's more than one method, Just have to pick the one that works for you. I don't think there an easier method than dosing kalk if it keeps up.

yea....shake it up in a container (air tight) and let it sit for an hour or so....try to only use the water (now aka Lime water)....the slurry at the bottom if any, just leave it at bottom and re-fill rodi until its all gone. That steh way I do it....
