This is my 11 gallon cube. Tomorrow I have a Nero 3 coming, and I’ve been battling flow in this tank. I currently have a mini ZKSJ powerhead set to 2 on constant flow. It seems to give the SPS some flow, and not blow the LPS and mushrooms around too much. I can only go so low with it though.

That’s why I wanted the Nero, since I can customize the random flows and have them lower, where this one I can’t.

My question is where should I place the new Nero 3? I do have a 1/2” RFG on the return. The return is a bottom suction IOAOI pump, set to 7 of 10. The RGF is angled in and up for surface movement. This tank is backwards from most, the surface skimmer is on the right and the return is on the left.

Any help and suggestions are welcomed!

Pretty similar to my biocube. You want the pump pushing towards your overflow.

Left side glass, about 3-4” from the water surface. Set it to wave mode, about 50-70% for .750 seconds on and 1.250 off. Adjust the intensity and watch your SPS polyps for gentle waving from the pulse. Don’t point it any coral directly. This will also create a bit of a gyre effect and pick up lots of just in the sand.

Place it in spot 1, put your frag rack on spot 2.

I have a Nero 5 in my 32 biocube, great pump and you can run much higher on pulse mode, on random/constant you are likely in the 10-25% max range and I find it’s too much for my torch. The pulse mimics a costal reef.

Play with the pulse strength first, then if things are too much play with the time off between pulse to slow down flow on the sand.

Only lower time on from .750 to .5 if there is sand being blown around.
