I’m new to saltwater and looking for ideas when it comes to stocking my IM Nuvo Fusion Pro 2 (40 gallon AIO - 24x20x19" - 30lbs Live Rock, 2" sand bed). I already have two ocellaris clowns in an observation/ QT tank and I’ll be adding corals, so any new additions need to be reef safe. I know I definitely want a wrasse or two, tank size permitting, and I’m really in love with the Silver Bellied (Halichoeres leucoxanthus) and Melanurus (Halichoeres melanurus) though I know having both isn’t really an option so I’m open to suggestions. No Six Lines, please!

Other potential additions I was looking at:
-Starry or Algae Blenny
-Flame or Longnose Hawkfish
-PJ Cardinal
-Royal Gramma
-Aiptasia or Radial Filefish
-Goby / Pistol Shrimp pair (would the wrasse / hawkfish be a problem here?)

Obviously I wouldn’t add all of these since that’d be a lil too crowded; they’re just fish on my wishlist that I’d consider adding depending on compatibility.

As far as CUC, I’m open to suggestions, especially since I know wrasses and hawkfish are known to go after some invertebrates. I’d like to have an urchin (lil reef roomba) but I'm not dead-set on one if incompatible with the fish. Same with a pom-pom crab. Cool, but not a must-have.

On a semi-related note, does anyone have experience buying fish / CUC from World Wide Corals or Top Shelf Aquatics? They’re not excessively far from me so I’d be willing to make the drive if they come recommended so I wouldn’t have to deal with shipping costs / stress. I was already planning on getting my corals from them when it comes time to start adding some. Otherwise I was looking at Dr. Reef.

Thanks in advance!

I would not add any angels. Even the "with Caution" labeled ones. They could be fine for a long time and 1 day they suddenly realized how tasty those corals are. Might get lucky and get 1 that will never eat or nip. Same for the file. They are great for aiptasia but once no more aiptasia its off to the corals. Again might get lucky and get 1 that wont go after your corals. Those wrasses will be fine until they get older. Then all invertebrates will become snacks. I like the fairies, flashers and maybe a possum wrasse. I like the trochus snails and red leg hermits. I avoid shrimps as all the really do is go after the corals if you target feed. Serpent starfish are cool and a good scavenger. CUC you can buy from who ever has the best deal. All the LFS get them from the same place. They will do the same job. Doesn't matter who you bought them from.
