Hi everyone.

I’ve been dosing ESV 2 part for the last 4 years. I’d like to switch to AFR.

If I’m dosing 50ml ESV what would be the equivalent for AFR?

Thanks!

They are fairly close in potency. Demand may decline a bit if pH drops a little, so starting at 50 mL of AFR per day and the. Adjusting based on alk changes over a week or so seems reasonable.

Sounds good! It’s what I suspected. Thanks.

I’ve been running as much as I could through AI for work. For this question it was providing all kinds of data about different potency and lag time for taking effect of AFR v ESV. It was contradicting itself a lot.

Apologies if I'm wrong but going from memory I thought you @Randy Holmes-Farley told me in a post a while back that ESV was 0.7 times stronger than AFR? My math terminology not yours because someone had to dumb down your actual formula so I understood it. I'm pretty week at math.
When I need to increase my AFR due to consumption increase I use a dosage calculator for ESV and multiply the recommended dosage for ESV x 1.7 and use that as the amount of AFR that I need to add. It has worked great that way because the only AFR calculator I can find if from TM and they recommend dosing based on calcium which I do not do .

If you have a decent enough amount of esv left I would dose both in percentages until the full change is complete. The first few days of AFR the tank definitely has to adjust to it.

90% esv 10% afr

80 - 20 next day and so on.

Might be me over complicating it though

It takes 48.3 mL of ESV carbonate alk part to add 1 dKH to 100 gallons.

It takes 63 mL of AFR to do the same thing.

Since I think demand may decline, starting at the same dose and ramping up the AFR if needed seems reasonable, but starting higher is also certainly fine.

The AI responses were along this line. I’ve started transitioning now and will start testing more often to stay on top of it.

Thanks!
