Hello, I am a beginner and after about a month my tank was finally ready so I decided to buy a pair of clownfish, once they shipped and arrived one of the fish I noticed had some white stuff on his eye, before I had even put them in the tank. After dipping them and getting them into the tank I got a better view and it’s all on his face. I also noticed there’s a hole/rip in 2 of his fins. I had contacted the place purchased from and no response yet so I thought I’d ask on here. I’ve had them for a few days now and I have been keeping and eye on him and he seems pretty normal I haven’t noticed any abnormal activity but I feel that there is obviously something wrong so if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated as I know nothing and this is my first saltwater tank, thank you.

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Can you post a clear video of both fish?
What did you dip the fish with and why?
Are both fish still eating?

This could be Brooklynella, a very serious disease that new clownfish frequently get.

Hello sorry for the late response. Very unfortunate to hear this. I should’ve worded it better by “dipping” I meant acclimating the fish to the new tank, not sure why I said dipping sorry. And yes both fish are eating and seem to be doing well with food. I hope this video helps you get a better idea please let me know if you’d like me to take another video

It's possible that this isn't Brooklynella, but rather, the two fish have been fighting, with the smaller one getting the worst of it. I can see torn fins and marks around the mouth - both of those are a sign of fighting. However, that still photo you posted sure does look like Brooklynella.

Your aquarium looks very new. How is the water testing? What is the ammonia level? Are there any other animals in the tank? If so, how are they doing?

My tank is new and these are the first animals I have in it, there is currently no other animals in the tank at the moment. As for the water testing an ammonia level the ammonia I used the seachem ammonia alert and it is in the safe zone I also have been using a testing kit quite often and all the levels seem to be fine. I am just a little confused as I was given the fish like this before it was even in my tank, I also bought them as a pair. Can pairs still fight? If this is them fighting what should I do? And if this is the disease how should I go about that? Thank you for your response and help

Yes - clownfish are weird, even bonded pairs can break down and begin fighting for no apparent reason. With Brooklynella, the fish will begin swimming more weakly and slow down or stop feeding. Curing Brook is tricky - the best treatment is formalin, but that is toxic to people and really shouldn't be used in homes. Another option is Ruby Reef Rally Pro - it is not as effective, but is much safer to use.

Thanks for all the info and help I really appreciate it. Would it hurt to treat the fish with the ruby reef rally pro even though I’m not 100% sure if it’s them fighting or the brooklynella? Or should I just watch them more and see if I can get a better idea on what’s going on? How would you go about this situation next if you were in my position?

Can you just repeat - You said you saw this in the bag, correct? Looking exactly like this? To me this looks like this: Which is lymphocystis - but an extremely severe case.

How long will it take you to get rally pro? I’d have some on hand so that you are ready to treat if the fish gets worse.

To be honest im not entirely sure im very new to the saltwater stuff but it does look somewhat similar to this image, but i looked up the thing you are talking about and based of other images i wouldn't say it looks the same as those images. There is a clear/white film over his eye and there is white stuff around his face as well as as a messed up fin but im not sure if that is related or not. I can take more pictures if you'd like to see if you can get a better idea? thank you

Clownfish usually don't get Lymphocystis and this just doesn't look like it to me. Here is an article I wrote about it:

You could dose the tank now, but hold off using it as a dip (at 3x the dose for an hour) until the fish show worsening symptoms.
