Even with water changes every week of about 15% and rowaphos, phosphates will not drop, and they are at like .16!!!
 
First question that comes up in all these nutrient questions is what are the readings of your water change water.

You mean the new water I mix before adding it to the aquarium?

No I have not, so your saying I should run tests on the water before doing the change because the water even if using rodi may still have high phosphates?

Correct....if you are replacing high phosphate water with high phosphate water, it isn't going to drop :-)
 
Even if your testing is off (very likely) .16 isn't that bad. This is my tank that usually is around .15 - with RowaPhos (Nitrates are 5-10)

If the RO water is zero, consider Lathanam Chloride instead of GFO or Rowaphos. Much simpler. But go slowly. Will drop Po4 dangerously fast if dosed to heavy
 
.16 is nothing, I wouldn't be concerned.

Heck, my frag tank is sitting at .68 currently. I'll probably throw in some GFO this week to lower it some, but everything in there is looking happy and healthy.

Ty so much! I think it may be the container I’m using to mix water. I’ve wiped it down before and hosed it down with tap water, but never anything more than that. I just tested the water I’m mixing and it came out at .16 like within a couple minutes with the read sea PO4 tester.

But that doesn't necessarily mean it is the barrel.

What you are suggesting is that Phosphates are leeching from the barrel into your new water. I think it more likely be the water source.

Is that a pectin is all the way in the right?
Sure is. About 2 years old with a frag from this colony in another tank that is about the same size

Ok so I got it figured out, it was my water source! 🤦🏾‍♂️ Question, how do I go about doing water changes now that I got my water problem solved? I would like my phosphates between .03-.05 but they are all the way on .16. Should I do a 20% water change or would that be maybe be too much of a change, and end up hurting my sps because of too big of a drop in phosphates too fast? Or should I do a 10% every 72 hours until phosphates drop to where I want them?

My tank is also running at .68 & everything is thriving! I used to chase that number early on & all that did was cause harm, even a bout with dinos. For whatever reason my tank has decided that .68 is where it wants to live & with all of my corals extremely healthy & happy, I just let it be.

So are you defining "source water" as the water going into your RODI system or are you detecting phosphates on the output of your RODI system?

Output, I to change out ro membrane and the rest of the filtration on my rodi, soon as I did that… bingo.
