Herbie Setup Question

I’m setting up a new reef tank. Glass cages tank, with a GEO sump.

I’m going to do a Herbie overflow, with the tank in one room, and the sump on the other side of the wall in the “mechanical room”. I’m working on figuring out the plumbing.

Should I try to avoid 90 degree joints on the drain plumbing and only use 45’s, or does it matter?

Also, should I put the vale just below the tank (I.e. straight show), or should I put it after the turn(s) on the mechanical room side?

I always avoid 90s if possible because they restrict flow. You can use 45s or sweeping 90 degree fittings to avoid this flow restriction on both drains and returns. Check out my tank thread for some DIY plumbing guidance if you like.
