It's been a handful (or more) of days since I have seen any of my hermit crabs. I should have 10 of them crawling around my tank but have not seen any. There are no shells in the sand. There's nothing buried.

Could the hermits be hiding and possibility molting? I haven't seen any molts sitting on the sand either.
Or, are my hermits dead?? lol

How big is your tank? I sometimes will go days without seeing mine and mine is only a 20g tank

It's a 43 gal. There's tons of hiding holes in my rock work. Majority of the rock is from a previous tank too, so maybe the crabs are finding some dead stuff from my old rock... Who knows.

Mine are ussualy in a pile together durring the day and active at night. Sometimes I can see the pile of them sometimes not.
This is the first pack of hermits I've had that I haven't seen in over 5 days, both at night and during the day. They need to get back to work! I've got some algae starting to pop up... Come on guys!

Just as I suspected… they were molting. There’s a handful of molts floating and dragging in the sand and the hermits decided they wanted to work today!
