Hermits Killing Snails

Anyone else have an issue with your red leg hermit crabs killing your snails? We literally cannot keep snails in our tank. We have a bunch of extra shells for the hermits and snails, so I don’t know if it’s a shell thing when there is plenty of shells. We have had two types of snails nassarius and we just got mexican turbo snails not that long ago and they already killed one. Do you have any other recommendations for cleanup crew that we can try with the hermits?

Yup. They are known to do that. Throw them in the sump/rear chambers.

a tale as old as time. Red legged hermits are known to do that as well as other hermits. The safest ones are scarlet, electric blue, and halloween hermits ime, which also happen to be the most expensive.

Ugh… They are a pain in the butt!! I literally can’t keep any snails in there and I need more clean up crew.

I don’t mind spending the money but I wish my local fish store didn’t recommend the red leg to me because if I knew they would kill my snails I would of chose a different type of hermit. I did just start up another tank so now I know not to put red legs in that tank. Thanks for your help!

Yea - it was one of my mistakes too when i asked the lfs to assemble clean up crew…. They (and all crabs) are opportunity killers
