Subject: Greetings from Guangzhou, China! It's great to join this community and learn from everyone.

Hello everyone,
I'm SpikeMai from Guangzhou, China. I've been keeping reef tanks for two years, and my journey began in October 2023. I'm so happy to finally join the Reef2Reef community!

To be honest, my reef keeping journey hasn't been smooth. There are many misunderstandings and prejudices about reef keeping in the local community. Along the way, I've made countless mistakes and lost quite a few corals. However, I'm here to learn from my failures, share my experiences, and draw inspiration from everyone.

I'm particularly interested in mastering the care of torch corals (Euphyllia) and Christmas tree worms . I'm also looking for cost-effective ways to improve my aquarium environment and create a better living environment for my corals.

My current aquarium parameters are as follows:
  • Nitrate: 10 ppm
  • PO4: 0.03 ppm
  • KH: 7.8 - 8.0
  • pH value: 8.3 (daytime) / 8.17 (nighttime)
Below are some recent photos of my aquarium. It's a pleasure to be a member of this international coral reef enthusiast community. Wishing everyone a happy life and thriving coral reefs!
Sincerely,
SpikeMai
Torch coral do best in moderate water flow. The polyps will shrink if the flow is too fast because the polyps will tear off in higher currents. Also torches are photosynthetic and have a relationship with its inner zooxanthellae which converts light into energy which feeds the coral. While it does not require direct feeding, feeding is beneficial and I feed mine Mysis shrimp.
The best location for a torch coral is where it gets moderate to medium water flow and medium-intensity lighting. Torches are aggressive corals which protect themselves by using their sweeper tentacles aggressively. Recommended ranges are:
Temperature around 78 degrees
Specific gravity of about 1.025
Ph of about 8.2
Calcium level of at least 400 ppm
Mag 1300-1380

SpikeMai

I am curious though I have always understood your country controls social media very tightly ?

Beautiful and detailed organized and $$$$ installation. I certainly don't question your seriousness. You may be the reef of the month soon . ( I will vote for you ). Then off course you will get the Mariner of the Month award and You and Paul B can get together you can supply the Sake Him the Grand Marnier a veiled reference to his award which he Lords over us at every opportunity
Haha, thank you so much for the kind words! It definitely cost a fortune, but I’m hoping to learn from you guys and keep improving. I’ll raise a glass to you all from across the world! Cheers, guys!

You're right, I feel like the flow was too strong before, which is why I lost a few pieces. Regarding feeding, is it better to use powdered coral food or liquid coral food?
