I just joined this forum yesterday. I've kept fish since I was about 13 starting with piranhas and then oscars. About four years ago I made the leap into saltwater with a 29g FOWLR tank. It was a primitive setup; hob skimmer, live rock, no sump, cheap store bought stand. But it flourished for 2 years. Last year I built my first custom reef set up. It was a 40g breeder with a 20g sump. I designed and made everything myself. The stand, canopy, sump with ATO and an algae scrubber. I'll include a couple pics below because I was proud of that setup. I had success with SPS and LPS coral and I was hooked.
Unfortunately I had to sell that setup because of moving late last year. I am kicking my self in the butt now because I sold all the equipment. I pretty much had everything but a tank controller. Even my RODI unit.
My newest project is a 90 gallon reef ready tank I bought off Craigslist last week. This is going to be a slow build right now because kids and summer camps and vacations. I'll post a new thread in the DIY forum once I get started on the stand, which should be in the next couple of weeks.
