incorrect, anything from Dutchess County and above is upstate, you can duke it out all you want with the rest of yous over things like upstate, western NY, southern tier etc. To us it really doesn't matter. :-)

Wait?! I always thought upstate was anything not in NYC? As a kid I was told upstate went all the way down to the Pennsylvania border and that the Southern Tier was somehow still considered upstate.

Everything north or west of Tarrytown is upstate. You guys can divide it up from there however you want :D

Really anything north of "the city" is upstate. It's just the city and it's 5 Burroughs that people call NY. Whenever I tell people I meet I'm from NY, they instantly think I'm from some where in the city until you specify upstate.
