Hello, I have been keeping aquariums all of my life and saltwater tanks for the past 5 years or so. My first tank was a great learning experience and evolved from local wild stuff to a reasonable softie reef tank. Taking a lot of the lessons I learned from the experimental tank, I recently built a fish room in the house with the tank built into the wall for viewing from the living room. It is spectacular.

The tank is a 90 gallon bare bottom with a 20-gallon sump and many innovative features in the dedicated fish room. There is a 20-gallon remote water change tank that makes water changes a breeze and does not disturb the general operation of the tank. The rock pile is elevated in the back with an MP-10 blowing under it to keep it clear of detritus. The other pumps in the tank are position such that the detritus all settles in one spot and make removal via siphoning into the filter sock in the sump a 2-minute process.

I "hurricane" the tank about two times a month to avoid detritus build up in the rockwork. That in combination with GFO and a half dose of biopellets in a reactor maintains very low PO4 levels below .025ppm. I have a pretty light load of fish but feed them well and spot feed most of the corals a few times a week.

While there are always things I would improve, I think I have a pretty good system going and am amazed at the growth I have had.

Obviously, there is much much more to the system but I will save that for later. I very much look forward to learning and sharing with everyone. 'Glad to be here.
