Hello I am looking for high end named piece acros for sale for my red sea 525g2. I am also wanting to put radions on but am not sure how many I need for a acro dominant tank. The tank currently has 1 xr15 pro g6 on it.

Tanks been running for abt 5 months now. I’ve got a copperband powder blue clown tang yellow corris pair of clowns thats about it. I want 2 radion xr30’s plus the xr15 I have in the middle.

Every system is different, 5 months is still new. Do you have corals in there now? Maybe start with some inexpensive pieces first. I like to have a "snitch" coral in there. One that if a parameter is off, it will tell you. Mine happens to be a WWC Yellowtip Austera. When the yellow tips are not there, there is an issue. Of course i still test, every sunday, and the tridents as well, but if something isnt right, thats the one that tells me.

High end acros would not be my first choice in a new tank. . My first year was rough with quite a few losses. The second year was better.

Test your husbandry with a green slimer and plating monti. If these thrive and grow then buy a more difficult piece or 2.

High end acros are usually most sensitive and delicate and need established systems with stability. With a tank running 5 months you haven’t been running long enough to prove or learn stability. Min 1 year running, 6 months stable parameters would be my minimum before anything high end. Get some nice mid grade acros and milliepora then go after the angry birds and rainbow splice

My tank is 5+ years old and i still struggle with some acros - high end or not. Def test with some easier sps - birds nest, stylophora, green slimer, torts etc... 5 months is IMHO still a new tank. In human terms, still a toddler LOL - easy to fall but quick to get back up. You don't put a toddler behind the wheel of a high end auto for obvious reasons so don't go chasing "high end" anything and wasting lots of $ and getting discouraged until you get a lot more time to dial in your tank. Going to need a lot more than 1 XR15, your looking at multiple XR30's to cover that size tank.

Did you start with dry or live rock? If you started with live then 5 months is fine to start adding some of the more difficult corals. There is alot more than lighting to consider. Alk,calcium,and magnesium need to be within certain ranges and stable. Nitrate and phosphate also. I'd concentrate on this then upgrade the lighting. I personally think halides are better for SPS but that's just one of many opinions.

That’s a 112 gal tank with one XR15. You need way more coverage. Set the tank up for SPS right from the beginning.

High end acros are easy to kill, slow growers, and hard to color up. I’d start with named pieces that have been in the hobby for years.

How about we wait until a basic stylophora works, then go from there. 5 months! I would not recommend certain highend corals until year 3.

What other corals do you have in your tank? I wouldn't jump into the deep end with expensive corals until you know your tank can handle basic SPS corals. No sense in spending thousands of dollars on corals for them to die a month later.

When you are ready, I would purchase acros even if they are beginner/easy, from proven vendors that will provide a healthy specimen. SBB, Battlecorals and LRO is who I would recommend, but there are definitely others as well.

From my past
experiences with other tanks smaller, the same size and slightly larger -
- EVERY TANK IS DIFFERENT
- I thought I was successful because they stopped browning out.
- I thought a puddle was when about 1/4 of coral grew on the rock
- my tank(s) looked like other tanks. 2 XR30s and 2 wave makers
- Then I got serious
- 125+ display turnover not counting sump
- Hybrid lighting, min Par 550 in sand (I have to start acclimating in a different tank)
- lighting period extend far far longer than I would have thought (14.5 total 9.5 full spectrum)
- Now I get what happy coral look like.

I wasted a bunch of money trying to jump straight into the Acro game. It’s not the money that aggravates me. It’s the lost time.

When it comes to trying to understand one of the most complex animal/plant hybrids, yeah I totally agree. To understand the microbiome, the corals, their surroundings, and the ocean itself, is a daunting task. The mystery is that they live in a world, where we cannot naturally exist to observe, we can only do so 24/7 in a simulated environment, where nature can still find a way. Yeah, we are ALL totally clueless ;)

I’ve been in the hobby for over 10 years and I just started to get good with acros. Everyone’s different but this was my experience. Good luck!
