High-Flo Acro

I've been trying my hand at the Acro game lately, and have recently added a few nice sticks into my 36G Elos Midi. However, I inadvertently placed two of these rather sensitive acros a little too close to my MP-10es and discovered that their flesh had been completely stripped off overnight.:cry:

So my question to you SPS experts out there, is which acros will tolerate and/or flourish in relatively vigorous flow? And I'm just talking about being near or adjacent to the powerhead, not directly in front of it of course.

Does the mucus coat on the slimers afford them any extra protection, perhaps?

Sounds like a different issue honestly... Is just a few spots missing or the whole thing completely gone??? I have one pretty close to a mp60 on full blast it has a small spot missing flesh but the rest of the acro is fine....

The WHOLE thing is completely gone. These were some new pieces that were about 7 days into the light-acclimation process. I was moving them to the half-way up point, and it appeared as if the powerhead just took their flesh off literally overnight.

You have to adjust acro frags to the flow in the tank. The key is having high flow, but at random intervals so it's not always just blasting away at the coral. Think waves....

It sounds like the coral has rtn'ed or has bleached. With little experience I expect it to be a total loss. Hopefully the other ones make it.

I had the same thing happen to one side of an Oregon Tort when I first put it in my tank in front of an MP10wES. I think that their flow is a little more concentrated than the MP60. Thankfully it healed over time.

It's funny you mention that, as I'm just about to place a new 4" inch Oregon Tort, and I'm suddenly very, very aware of it's proximity to the powerhead.

I really dont think flow would make it rtn I mean sure some flesh will come off but never rtn from my exp. I think you had a alk issue honestly... What are your params and how are you holding them stable???

Salinity: 1.025
Here were the parameters from that time period:
pH: 8.1
Ca: 440
KH: 9
PO4: 0.05
NO3: <1

But now that you mention it, I think may have had a little, teeny, tiny alk swing around that time, as I had a chalice go south also just a couple of days later.

makes me remember a time when i had a garf bonsai and put it in front of a powerhead to blow the sand off and it turned completely white in less than a second. LOL I think there were other factors going on with the frag. All acros will do good with strong flow as long as its random and turbulent. I have 2 mp10 on reefcrest along with 2 750 evos on the back all opposing each other in a small cube. None of my sps are complaining. Tiny alk swing is fine. it may have been the frag. What are the dimensions of the midi? I was thinking about getting a 24x24x16 tank. its 35 gallons with water line 14 inches high. I absolutely love the ati blue plus bulbs and thats why i need it to be 24 inches long

To answer your question most milliepora will tolerate tremendous in-direct flow.
