Ten months ago I switched from B-Ionic 2-part to an equivalent potency 3-part solution. 607g/gal BRS Soda Ash, 841 g/gal BRS Calcium Chloride, and 276 g/gal Balling Part C. The method has been working great as confirmed by ICP-MS.
The iodine usually comes in around 40-60 ug/L. Then out of nowhere (after using a new box of Part C) ICP comes back at 505 ug/L in one tank, and 668 ug/L in another! Shortly thereafter, one of my high alkalinity consumption tanks tested an astounding 960 ug/L!
I was able to confirm the ICP iodine levels using dilution, verification with Iodine standards, and the test here:

Long story short, I believe the source is the Balling Part C.
Verification - 250 ml of fresh Blue Bucket seawater measured 64 ug/l. Adding 3 drops (0.144 mL) of my Part C mix (approximately corresponding to my daily dose of 4.5 dKH alkalinity), increases the iodine level to 120 ug/L. This seems like an incredibly high amount of iodine increase.
@Randy Holmes-Farley @Hans-Werner any thoughts on what could be going on here?
I am curious if I’m simply the lucky one or if there are other users experiencing unexplained iodine rise while using Part C.
