Hey folks!

a while back i switched salts, and i sent out a sample to triton when i mixed up a new batch a few days ago. test results came back as expected, apart from HIGH manganese.

should i be worried about these levels? anything i can or should do?

Mn 55
Analysis 55 µg/l
Setpoint 2 µg/l
Deviation 53.00

thanks!
J.

That article is about magnesium, not manganese. Did you hand me the wrong link?

J.
LOL. Always read and answer post with reading glasses on! I thought I was posting you an article by Randy Holmes Farley on iron and manganese. Can't find it. I'll keep looking. But in the meanwhile here is one that references that article. Hope this helps a bit. Darn link won't work. Hang in there a bit.

Arrgh. This one discusses the link of iron & manganese briefly: https://www.advancedaquarist.com/2002/8/chemistry

Here's the paragraph:
"Since many hobbyists do not have access to the chemicals required to make iron(II) citrate, I'd advise buying a commercial iron supplement. There are a number available that seem appropriate and are not very expensive. Some commercial supplements combine manganese with iron (such as Kent's product), presumably because the scientific literature has demonstrated that phytoplankton also scavenge manganese from the water column. I've not experimented with manganese, but it is probably fine to use if you cannot find a pure iron supplement."

I'll keep looking for the one I wanted to post for you.

thanks for the links!

what i got was "manganese is required", "ok to Dose", "Algae will consume it rapidly".

at what point do i need to worry about high levels?

i guess that i'll find out if it gets depleted once i send in a sample from the tank :)

@jugenph Which salt did you switch to? I switched to ESV and had my fresh mix ICP tested. Things look great except for high manganese 21mg/l and lithium is in the orange according to Triton at 371mg/l where Triton setpoint is 200mg/l.

After researching - Lithium level doesn't seem like much of a worry.

Both of these are not coming from my RO/DI as I had the same batch of RO/DI tested as well.

Thing is, after doing 5 water changes with this mix, I tested my tank water and Manganese is 0. So maybe my macro in my fuge ate it up. So seems like a non-issue.

In fact Triton is asking me to dose Manganese now.

[EDIT] It's interesting that Triton puts the slider way in the red at 21mg/l Manganese, but then in the Help section does not mention Manganese as an issue. This is something that I am discovering about their set points. The colors can be misleading.

switched to Two Little Fishies AccuraSea1

i have not done a triton test of my tank water yet, only the freshly mixed batch.
