I am thinking that I will run a HOB for my QT as opposed to any type of biological filter. Might add one for supplement, but main will be a HOB. This is because I don't plan to have it running all the time to keep a biological filter going and also because if I medicate the qt it will likely kill all the biological filtration anyways.

I'd love to hear recommendations for which one to choose and why.

Thanks!

Marineland MAGNUM HOB canister filters are nice. They have charcoal in them and their out put pump has good water power, better than most hob filters. I got min for $80.

I have used an emperer 280 for 3 years with great success. Just take the bio wheel out and put in the main sump when you medicate. It has a lot of room to put what you want in reusable filter baskets.

Great suggestions! I forgot to mention that this is on a 10g quarantine tank. I would love to have a couple more to compare so keep em coming!

Just occurred to me that I have a canister filter that came with my tank which I am not planning on using for the DT. I don't typically see them being used or talked about as being used on QT tanks. Would there be an issue with using that? I am pretty sure it is a fluval 305 rated for 70 g and my qt will be a 10g.
