Hole in my Toadstool

As the thread title suggests my toadstool recently developed a hole.

Should I cut out that bit of flesh or will it heal? Any clues as to the cause?

It is self propagating, you can cut it when it gets to the point where a pedal is hanging off, but it will drop it self within a few days of you thinking it's time to cut the dangling piece(s) off.

After molt, it release pieces of itself to form new members. Same with molting of these specimens
