House lost power... apex is now funky.

with the storm rolling through last night we lost power for a bit. I woke up and now my apex is acting funny.
Trident has all test results as zero.
Cor is "missing".
Can't control my outlets.
Trident and dos are blinking orange.

This could potentially be the issue. Everything should be plugged into surge protector imo.

I recommend disconnecting each module’s AquaBus or 1Link cables so all you have connected is the Apex and EnergyBar. Verify you are able to control the EB outputs. Then, start reconnecting each module one by one, and verify everything is controllable before connecting the next module. It’s possible a single module was damaged by the storm, and that module blocks communications with other modules. This process will help identify if a particular module is bad.

A while back I had some very worrisome behavior from my 2016 apex after power losses. Twice, after a power restore, a power bar was deleted and reassigned a new address number. In the process, all outlets defaulted to ON. After varied back and forth with Neptune CS I concluded that putting the brain on its own power supply and connected to an UPS was prudent. I have a standby generator, so the UPS only needs to supply power to the brain for a short period of time, but it ensures that’s there’s no interruption, even a brief one. Have had no issues with apex since. I HIGHLY recommend it.

I think you best bet is to have a minimum amount of items hooked up. Try the head unit and a power bar. If that doesn't work try a different power bar. Then start adding things back one at a time. I had a storm surge kill a power bar on my Archon. The power bar would light up but would kill the communications on the system buss. The power bar that got damaged was in the garage. I also had a surround sound system damaged at the same time. The subwoofer output was damaged but the subwoofer was not. The subwoofer was plugged into a different outlet from the receiver. The controller was the same issue since part of the system was plugged into an outlet in the garage the rest was in the room with the tank. Surge suppressors didn't help in either case. I am guessing that the outlets were on oppisite sides of the 220 in each case.

the fuse will be if you got a power surge. Neptune powerbars aren't surge protectors or protected. Something like this will go a long way in protecting your expensive controller. Amazon product ASIN B00006BBAB

Surge protectors are not 100% protection. I have my house on surge protection and also individual circuits are protected as well. Yet .. during the 4 years in the hobby Ive had 4 apex controllers repaired or replaced.

Apex controller hardware is not robust and if I didn't have so much invested in neptune Apex hardware I would look at other solutions.

I have had my Hydros controllers for some time. One is over 4 1/2 years old and no issues. I may be lucky but I have not had any failures with the controllers or any of the Hydros equipment. I have slowly replaced all of my Archon devices except for the moon lights. That is the only thing left on that system. I now have 17 controllers. In Hydros each module can act like a single controller on it's own or when you create collective and add them to the collective they share all inputs and outputs with the collective so you can control an output on one controller with an input on another. If something were to happen to one of them the others would try to continue as best as they could without the controller with the issue but they would not be happy and you would be getting notifications of a broken collective until fixed. The controllers other than the XP8 and Launch have the power supplies separate from the controller itself so if something were to happen to the power supply it can be replaced without getting a new controller. In fact the Kraken has a large Meanwell supply and it has 8 force ports which can supply power to controllers with the separate power ports. It cannot supply AC power but the force ports will still work at 12v instead of the usual 24v and the drive ports which are 12v will still work on battery backup you can add to the Kraken by getting a 12v lead acid gel cell. One big issue with controller is they may not all be in the same place and could be on a different 120v side of the 240v coming into the house. This makes them more vulnerable to power surges. If lightning were to strike near your house then then a surge protector may help some but would not stop it completely. They are great for the normal surges that can happen though.

I just check mine on my XP8 and it is currently at 117.1 volts. I have seen it as high as 122 volts at times most of the time it is around 119.

No worries there! +- 10% from 120V is acceptable! — carry on!
