Hi I was wondering how aggressive miniatus groupers are with fish that they can’t swallow I ain’t planning to get one anytime soon but I just want to see people’s experience with them

It isn't just fish you need to be concerned with, they will also eat all of your clean up crew.

Depends on the personality of the grouper some are more aggressive than others but once they get a few inches if they dont like a fish, its probably going to kill it. They dont like red fish and if your thinking about if it can swallow a certain size fish or not, it probably can. Add it last and add it small. My 4 inch swallowed a 3 inch purple tang right in front of me.

I used one to eliminate a Mantis shrimp from an old system. Lfs let me return it after the mantis was gone. No other fish in the system at the time.
They pretty much will eat anything they can get in their mouth.
Similar eating habits of a large mouth bass. If it will fit it will be eaten.

What is the least aggressive grouper apart from a marine betta and polleni

Chalk basslet. I have one in my 150. Smallest of the grouper family.

A grouper is still a grouper. Ive had some through the years that were mild mannered and others just mean. Its a crap shoot. Having one will put a strain on bioload and may complicate what you can add. Need big bruisers once it gets full grown. And they grow fast

Which types have you had and which ones were aggressive and which ones are well behaved I just want one that won’t try to kill my fish I am not worried about the grouper swallowing them the fish are much too big for that and so is the fish on the stocking plan

Just spitballing ideas here... not a Grouper, but also not as big, nor aggressive... would this fish give you the 'look and feel' you are going for?

Ive only had 4 different miniatus in over 20 years. 3 out of the 4 got bold with size. One jumped, one died unexpectedly, and one would attack anything red or orange. Just add it last and make sure its small. Mine now will pick on anything new new the same size or smaller.

I have had one before it’s just hard to find them and also I don’t really like the deep blue color the only one I like is the shy hamlet but I have never seen one ever

Any other species?

Anyone had experience with different types of groupers and how aggressive are they?

Would a miniatus be fine in this tank without aggression
180 gallons
Tomini tang 5 inch
Sohal tang 5 inch
Polleni grouper 5 inch
Marmalade shark 10 inches
Marine betta 6 inches

I wouldn't mix groupers. Bad idea. And a grouper would swallow a marine betta and tomini tang once it got big enough if it wanted.

And a sohal would work with a grouper but 180 isn't big enough. Its gonna grow fast. I dont know how big the shark gets.
