How aggressive are miniatus groupers

I wouldn't mix groupers. Bad idea. And a grouper would swallow a marine betta and tomini tang once it got big enough if it wanted.

And a sohal would work with a grouper but 180 isn't big enough. Its gonna grow fast. I dont know how big the shark gets.

Really I have mixed groupers before I had a small lyrically a polleni and a blue line only aggression I had was with the lyrically and polleni but after 1 day it was fine also read a 180 Is fine for one the shark is gonna get to about 20 - 24 inches so will have to upgrade tank was gonna make a 800 gallon shark tank

And how wide is a 180? 18 or 24 inches. Youd want to give a shark id say 2 to 3 times its size to turn around comfortably. I believe just because we can get away with something doesnt mean we should.

800 gallon tank is pretty big. More than enough room for a small shark.

800 gallon tank is pretty big. More than enough room for a small shark.

The shark is small enough the width is 24 inches so about 2 and a half times the sharks length the three groupers was. 3 4 and 5 inches with the blue line being biggest and lyrical being smallest and also with the shark I don’t have the tank covered in rock I have made sure he has enough space to swim around wherever he wants the tank is built around him I know the responsibly of keeping a shark and I know in the long run that 180 gallons is not big enough but he is very happy currently the shark can turn easily and when it gets to about maybe 16 then i think that’s when i need to upgrade but right now that is a long way away

Worked at a fish store when in high school . The miniatus was the only one on the tank . Nothing was ever trusted with it . Beautiful fish , I always wanted one but didnt want to have a one fish only tank . Some groupers get very large , so what will you feed it when it gets big and always hungry ? It’s a “feed me Seymour “. Kind of fish . If you lived by the coast , catching bait with a cast net is always a good choice to feed inexpensively.

I’ve had a miniatus for 6 months in a predator tank with a mean butt purple tang, 2 triggerfish, a lunare wrasse and an emporer angelfish. All fish are more or less the same size right now. The grouper is my most laid back fish and has his den in a corner. I added him last because I thought he would be the meanest of the lot. The tang and wrasse turned out to be the meanest. As with all things tank related I realize as they grow things could change but I’m hoping if they grow up together they will be okay. They are all between 7-9 inches now. I’d love to hear any insight into what I should expect for the future as well. I think at some point I might have to either upgrade tank size or add a second tank to split up

Triggers, filefish and puffers are neat and won't grow out of their tanks in a year.

Chalk basslet. I have one in my 150. Smallest of the grouper family.

Do chalk bass eat gobies.? I want a group of chalk bass but i love my gobies more .

they all have a chance at nibbling on corals and my shark also I am getting my new tank pretty soon

Decades ago I had 2 nurses, a leopard and a horn in a 240. They were entertaining.

jeez how big were they all surely the nurse sharks would of got wayyy to big and a leopard shark they get huge too I am defo gonna add a epullate and a horn maybe a short tail nurse too and 1 or 2 blue spot rays or kuhil

They were all small, shorter than 24". Back in the 80s in SoCal LFSs had leopards in stock most of the time, then there was a ban on their collection and they pretty much disappeared from the hobby.

Jeez are you talking about the leopard sharks that get huge or the ones that have to keep swimming
