Has anyone ever been able to size the market (in term of active participants, not revenue) for our hobby, i.e., salt water tanks whether FOWLR or reef, both domestically and worldwide? Same question if including freshwater and planted tanks. I've never seen any numbers. Has anyone?

I'm sure the Marketeers have some kinds of numbers. However, what makes this hobby profitable to the companies are the number of people who get in....but only stay for a short period of time....and newbies are always coming in. When I do my hand-waving statistics, I believe the average new saltwater person is in for about two years and then out. Those that stick it out for the long term are very few.....wait while I wave my hands to come up with a number.....OK, about ten percent stay in the hobby long term. So it's this 90 percent that are constantly coming in and out that keep the industry going.
