I have a captive bred yellow tang also from LiveAquaria / Biota and he was about 1.5inches when I got him. He’s growing quickly and I would highly recommend getting a captive bred fish. You should have a 10-20 gallon quarantine tank for grow out because he was pretty small. He wasn’t quite ready for the 150g, but in QT he is perfectly happy and healthy. One of my favorite fish.

My yellow tang was fist sized so maybe 3-4 incjes. My blond naso tang was also 4 inches when i got him. My foxface ( not a tang i know) was about 3-4.. My tomini tang was about 3. My sailfin though was given to me by a guy getting outa the hobby and he was maybe a good 6 or 7 inches.

My blond naso is now 6 or 7 inches.. yellow tang is about 4-5 my foxface is about 6-7 the sailfin is about the same 7 inches. Tomini is probly 4 inches now.

I dont even see the wild caught ones anymorr..All ive seen are the small 1 inch yellow tangs.

To be honest thats too small... salt water breeders need to start the practice of selling these larger fish when they are 2 inchs or more.. Like discus.. discus under 2 inchs usually are never sold.

And i wouldnt spend 80$ on a 1.5 inch yellow tang.. Thats too much money for too small and fragile of a fish at that age. Im lucky my two yellow tangs were a good 3-4 inches because i just dont see em that size anymore.

Well i have them in my 135 gallon. Its 72x24 1.2x18. I want a 180 or larger.. but for now my tangs and fox have plenty of room snd there is no aggression.. and the way i have my rock wall setup they can swim front and back full 6 ft length.

Some may argue my tank is too small but to each their own. Deff wouldnt put em in a 75 or those 4 ft 150s though.. They need length over gallon size. This is my video i made like 4 months ago i think.. the tank looks much much better coral wise and the fish are a little bigger but you get the idea

The rock I have are Pukani but someone gave them to me for free and they even had no idea where it came from lol.

This is the first time someone on here recognize my username. Yes it's one of my favorite games of all time! I haven't played Sub Zero yet but the prebuilt stuff might be only in creative mode?

I partially disagree, the smaller fish ship in transport better and arrive in better condition. Also, the captive bred specimens arrive in great condition. Plus you’re getting a younger fish to enjoy longer. But you make a point, it would be nice to have the option of purchasing larger fish. For me, part of the fun is watching it grow. Happy tanging

My Red Sea sailfin was about the size of a 50 cent piece when I got him. He was all fins lol. I put him in my 29g to grow and he has done great. So I don’t think small tangs are always delicate fish.

I'm very proud of my blue tang, at the time I had a sailfin in my display that was quite large, as well as a chevron tang, I was really worried about my tiny little blue tang, barely the size of a quarter I had gotten from live aquaria on sale. I had failed to keep at least 2 yellow tangs at that point, I think I had lost a scopas as well. But I kept that little blue in my QT tank and raised him for almost 2 months, more than doubling in size. When introducing him into my display, I pulled my sailfin to the sump for a month, then added the blue, after that month I returned my sailfin. Its been over a year, and don't tell the Tang police but I have in my 220 display currently, 2 yellow tangs, 1 purple, a sailfin, chevron, atlantic blue, chocolate tang, pacific blue, yellow kole eye, purple kole eye.. and I'd have to look again at home to see if I got them all. They all kinda swarm together and overall get along just fine.

I didn’t have an issue finding wild YT’s. I purchased 4 of them beginning of September from LA and they cost me $33.60 each including shipping. They were all 2” to 2.5”. Almost finished with QT!

My PBT was over 5” when I got him on sale for $59.99 in July 2018. Hope he doesn’t beat up the YT’s.

@4FordFamily how big do you usually get them?
I like to buy 3-4 inch tangs. In a large system, 4 inches, in a smaller system, 2.5-3.5" is my target for most species. I find that acanthurus tangs under 3-3.5 inches are not very hardy.

That was the mindset I had. My 8’ tank is a mere 5-10 gallons bigger than your 6’

Yea id rather have an 8 foot tank then a 220 or 250 6ft tank.. but thats just me.. Thats why i dont like those 150 square shaped 4ft tanks.. they got girth but no length at all
