Hi folks. Just looking for some tips for crystal clear water? Mine is pretty clear but not 100% like I see In some of shops or insta. Doni need a protein skimmer? I heard seachem purigen was good? I currently have 3 media bags 1 with carbon, some bio media and foam filter in my sump as below.

Chemipure elite or blue can help improve water clarity. Roller filters, socks, skimmer can also assist

Yes, ozone, but that's hardly begginer choice.... ;)

There is no single thing that will produce "no water" effect, aka cristal clear water....

Just balanced combination of mechanical, chemical and uv filtration, along with proper cleaning and maintenance of tank.....

Thanks I don't really have the option for socks unless I re arrange the plumbing as my overflow flows into the sump but under the water level. I have just put a foam filter in my second section. So purigen is not gonna make a difference?

Of course.

I personally believe that you are covered in the carbon and “filter sock” department. The last final thing to make your tank show stopping worthy is the UV. It will sterilize and kill the bacteria in the water column that gives the tank a hazy/murky appearance.

You don’t need filter socks since you already have the sponge filter. The carbon you use works much better than purigen.

Basically, get a UV sterilizer. :)

Socks/roller/floss to remove particulates, carbon, uv and ozone to get rid of all the yellow tint.
UV does not do anything for yellow tint.

No need to use ozone for yellowing if you already use activated carbon.

And when I change these sponge filters should I be putting a new one next to the old before disposing of it? Think I screwed My tank a few weeks ago by just removing it as nitrates went up and ammonia goes to .5 sometimes

You just squeeze it out under running tap water and reuse it.

Nitrates won’t just go up when removing the sponge filter, and I’d bet that ammonia test is just giving you false positives.

Basically. You tank is already cycled and there’s no need for ammonia testing any longer.

Carbon, UV, and filter socks. Also have to be certain you have no microbubbles and no fish that disterb the sand.

My tank is never crystal clear thanks to a ton of wrasse who flop around in the sand and a diamond goby.

Ozone! People make it seem more difficult/riskier than it is sometimes but with an orp controller and modest dose it's pretty safe. That's mine I run ozone and carbon.

I was told to always squeeze sponge filters out in the water change water to preserve the beneficial bacteria. My understanding is that the chlorine/chloramine in tap water will kill the bacteria and this goes double for saltwater sponge filters because tap water is freshwater. I just squeeze them out in the bucket I use to siphon the tank water out. If anyone has clarification that would be great.
