There has been several posts lately regarding fire and electrical hazards that surround our tanks. One member was even injured. I have been shocked by a failed heater myself. So my question is, how do I check if my tank is energized??

Exactly. Here was my voltage readings...When we discovered the heater was the issue, when it was plugged in an in the water, the meter read about 120 volts. With the heater out, the meter read somewhere low at about 30 volts. 0 volts with a ground probe in my sump.Pretty simple. Get a DVM or any volt meter and put it in AC V. Put the black leg on a ground or neutral and then stick the other probe in the water and see if you have any voltage.
