I was always taught that with Latin names, you put the emphasis on the second to last syllable. But it's a dead language, so who can really say?(grin). We have a running joke; you say A-crop-ora and I say Acro-pora - and we are both probably wrong!

I always though the second T was silent...

Le-pas-trea is how I always thought it was pronounced? I have heard it pronounced that way in my local reefing community, so just assumed it was correct.

Kind of like cheato, heard that pronounced a million different ways. lol

I pronounce chaeto "Kato", as in the Green Hornet.
Same.

But I've been in reef stores and asked for "Kato", and got weird looks. Then they say, "oooh you mean Cheeto?".

Then i'll make a joke about not the corn puffs, we all laugh and I leave with some "Kato".

To me "cheeto" is an orange cat with sunglasses and one of my favorite snacks. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I would also say it depends on what part of the world/country your from. I travel to florida on occasion(family lives there). I also have friends in the pacific northwest, and visit there on occasion. Call me weird or obsessed, but I always try to visit a few LFS's in any area I spend a couple days in. Typically never buy anything, but still like to visit and see how different part of the country shill our products/livestock.

Stuff I've heard pronounced one way in the great north east, is totally different in the south east, and again different in the north west. All basically the same, but small pronunciation differences between regions.

I doubt anyone on this forum is going to call you weird for that. My family takes a lot of weekend trips, and I try to schedule them around going to a lfs. This summer we’re taking a week vacation to Florida and I was able to talk my wife into a beach that takes us past WWC, I’m more excited about WWC than staying at the beach.
