How do you guys clean sand rubble?

Upgraded from a 28 to a 50G and I reused some of the sand, my problem is is that there is tons of rocks and ither crap in the sand. Is there any way I can clean it? Makes the tank look a lil dirty.

I use to siphon my sand, but someone told me i shouldn't do that. Now i just leave it alone.
