How do you remove scratches from glass?

You dont. You get used to them. Not much you can really do.

you can polish them out with a special compound, but i hear its a huge PIA and not worth the effort.

+1 to just getting used to it.

+1 you just have to get use to it. I have some on my 270g and it use to bother me.

Well there has to be a way... They can fix a crack in a car windshield while you wash your car so why wouldt we be able to remove a few small scratches....

Only way to remove scratches from glass is to lower the level of the glass to the level of the scratch thru polishing, then you'd probably get into funky optical issues with the unlevel surface of the area where the scratch was. You'd probably end up making a problem to fix a problem.

Only other way I can think of to deal with it would be if you could fill the scratch with epoxy to the level of the glass, but I've never heard of that being done in an aquarium application. Even then it would not really be a true fix.
