Hey Everyone,

I just ran GFO for the first time last night. I used less than half of the recommended amount. I’m using a media reactor and brs GFO. Within 12 hours my phosphates dropped from .47 to .05. No corals are showing any stress as of now but obviously im worried. I immediately removed the reactor and I will monitor phosphate for a while before using it again.

I have some questions on how you guys run GFO.

- when you reach your desired phosphate level, do you remove the reactor from the tank, or do you just turn it off? (I have the innovative marine media rector that has to be submerged in the back chamber of my AIO)

-if you add and remove the reactor as needed - how often do you add it to the tank and how long do you let it run before removing?

- anyone drop their phosphate from .4+ to <.1 like i did? If so did your corals show signs of stress?

Also, now that I pulled out the reactor and the media is just sitting in there. Does this media go bad? How long can I leave it sitting in the reactor outside of the tank before I have to change it out?

I removed GFO and retested and I got 2 test kits reading .2ppm (Hannah and trident np) I think the first test that read .05 was skewed because I tested while GFO was still running.

Good questions.

I have never run it in all the time I've been reefing. I've only done water changes.
And I'm waiting to hear answers to this as well. I don't want to have to remove the reactor. I would like to just turn it off too, but what happens if it goes anoxic from being turned off is my question.

I would be plumbing it off a manifold if I used it.
