I have about forty fifteen day old platinum x picasso clowns. This is the first time I have bred them and I am wondering what the process is for platinums and picasso to colour up. Most have a white stripe on there heads now but some seem black. Do they grow into there white ? I am pretty excited and impatient to know what is going to happen.

My experience comes from a Picasso x Picasso pair so keep that in mind...

You will know if you have platinums almost immeadiately. Shortly after meta, when other perculas are just starting to show their headstripes, your platinums will be completely white. It's not something they grow into. They are white by the time the others are just starting to show their headstripes. Roughly 10% of my offspring are platinums.

Likewise, you have a good early indication of which offspring have the picasso gene. Picassos will have a body stripe long before other offspring show any body color. Sometimes the subtleties of the pattern take some time to develop but by day 15 you should have a pretty good idea of which offspring are platinums and by day 30 you should know which of the remaining are picassos versus regular perculas.

To summarize, platinums get full body white shortly after meta, picasso develop their white body barring shortly after that and anyone else is a regular percula and will take months to develop.

Thanks for the reply. I just checked them out and it looks as if I only have one Platinum, I did have two more that died around meta. It is still really hard to tell about the Picasso as I have them in a black round tub and I am only looking down on top of them. I thought I would get more Platinums from a Platinum father and a b grade Picasso mother. Sorry no pics i am not real up with how to do it thanks again JasonPG.
