I buy my salt water from the lfs also so I assume it's mixed correctly

Well, that or the test may be the issue. It puts you in the position of trusting them entirely.

If you really want to raise magnesium, we can certainly guide you on how to do it, but I personally would not do anything about it in this scenario.

It is more likely that you are not getting freshly mixed water from the LFS, but the old water from their system.

Any new water they mix goes back into their system.

I came across an interesting point suggesting that distilled water might draw out and absorb trace elements, so it might be a good idea to opt for RODI water when mixing your own salt solution.

I'm not an expert myself, just sharing what I've read, so it could be wise to double-check with someone more knowledgeable. Wishing you the best of luck with getting your water just right!

No, that makes zero sense in a variety of different ways.

Most obviously a problem with the idea is where would the trace elements go? They go into solution, which is where you want them. :)

To reply to this conversation. I personally use the API kit as well and do not trust the Magnesium results. Every time it is off anywhere between 120-200ppm. Use a better test kit before dosing. Also, with teh Quantum Products and your size tank I would not recommend dosing more than 30ml in a day.
