Just measured a new batch of IO Reef Crystals at 1.025: Alk 10.5, Ca 470, Mg 1350

Using the same Salifert kits. Wow I really messed up my parameters, bad. I hope they don’t revoke my reefing license for this…

Have eased my parameters back into reasonable ranges. (Mg a bit noisy -- Salifert Mg test does not say to shake the indicator bottle, but I think it changes the reading so I've started doing that routinely.) Now trying to dial dosing in to reasonable maintenance values. Corals looking happier!

Looks good.

IMO, magnesium testing is among the most problematic, and often is not worth the trouble. Just dosing it somehow in proportion to calcium seems a better plan to me.

Good to know. Will just stick with ESV part2 and dial in Ca to take care of Mg also, and not worry about knowing the number

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
