How high to mount lights

Hello. I'm building a new light hood to go above my 180. My question is, how high should the lights be above the tank. I would be measuring from the top of tank rim to the base of the light assy (Reef Optix & Lumen Bright Reflectors).

I realize opinions will vary, but i figure there's a distance you dont want the lights any closer to the tank to avoid heat and algae problems. Thanks for replying.

I think I answered this on another thread you started . U want about 16 inches from the bulb to water surface . U never stated if they were the large , or mini or wides ?

Ok thanks...the lumens are 16in, so wide...i just checked where i previously had them...12in...maybe a cause for some of my hair algae.
