How “large” is large in this context? For me, the happy “large” tank is 100-150gal. My frag tank (90gal) and SPS tank (150gal) are very easy to maintain and stable. You can do a 20% WC (20-30gal) and it’s very doable.
However, when dealing with my 450gal tank, doing a 20% WC is 90gal right? That’s very time consuming and a lot of salt! Everything else is super-sized (lighting, skimmer, heaters, wavemakers, return pumps, etc) and you gotta deal with bigger issues! Trying to “stabilize” the tank takes days and a lot of effort. Monster tanks are cool but requires serious commitment.
So — it’s all relative when it comes to “stability”. Bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better/stable, IME.
