Hi guys right now i'm in a buzz over restarting my tank. I'm on the net gathering info, what i'm going to buy , what to buy first anyway you get the picture. I'd say 80% of the fun in the hobby is setting up a tank.

Now how long does it last; what's the thing that you think will annoy you or did annoy you the first when the routine gets in .

Yes, you are totally right! Setup the tank is the more interesting part.

That's why I am working now on 120g new build :)

to increase the fun, I am DIY the stand, sump and the DT itself, now I almost done with the stand and the sump.

Beside that I ordered new skimmer, wavemaker, led lights, pumps in one order from Amazon, I am going crazy lol

The only thing I dislike (I don't even dislike it that much), is also one of the only things you don't have on there. "Plumbing". So I voted for I love it all.

But its not part of the routine, the question is after you've finished the set up, that i suppose include the plumbing which i also hate personally.

@wesamazmy now you know you have to share pictures :D.

Haha, pardon me  it makes perfect sense now :D. I will state in my defense that in an ever evolving system plumbing starts to seem to become routine in that. Or maybe it is that I can't leave well enough alone and it is a personality flaw (most likely of all of them). Anyway, I'm going to stick with "I love it all". :D

Honestly if I didn't have something to mess with I wouldn't know what to do. I spend way more time working it then watching. Every time one set up is solid I end up starting another. Multiple tanks/systems (3), and I'm always finding something to mess with. I find it hard to sleep in on the weekends, so I do a good chunk of the routine maintenance on the weekends before anyone is up. The kids name the fish (and even the crabs) but it's my whole deal. The only thing I do during the week is feed, maybe clean the glass once, but I hate feeding daily. I hand feed each fish to make sure the tank isn't polluted, and that everyone gets what they need. That 15 minutes right after getting in the door from work every day kinda sucks for me.

Please video your tank build! Watching you build your sump awakened the artist in me, you've got a super smart/simple/clean technique. I've always wanted to build glass tanks. You probably don't even realize the monster that you've probably just created!:D

I picked cleaning the canister filter. My 20g reef has a 4.5 gallon canister. Works great but major pain for cleaning!

The only two things on that list I don't like are replacing the filter socks and emptying the skimmer cup. I only dislike changing the filter socks because they are in a hard to reach area. I didn't dislike emptying the skimmer cup until a couple weeks ago when I accidentally spilled it all over a clean basket of clothes. I couldn't just put those clothes through an extra dryer run to freshen them back up.

I hate the build process because I'm just not that handy of a person. I enjoy the planning aspect of it, but the actual build is stressful. The weekly routine is kind of therapeutic for me. Ultimately I just enjoy watching the fish swim and the corals grow. I've been doing this more than seven years and still enjoy it daily.

Growing up a plumber before getting into hvac I like being able to put life long skills to good use.

quarantining, everything else is a joy. Ok, well wanting to upgrade and/or spend money to fix an issue can be stressful, but otherwise the actual playing with the tank is all fun.
