working on sump design for 220 build and have been planning on 3 - 4 x 14 socks but have seen some sumps with twice as many. I am wondering if I increase the number of socks can I go more days between cleanings.

Yes because they will get clogged less quickly. But make sure you incorporate an overflow protector.

However i wouldnt keep somgers longer, changing sooner is bettter.

320g system, I run a 120g sump. You could put 3x 7" filters across it. My design only runs with 2. Typically I run the 250 mesh socks, it will give me a week without changing. 100 felt socks clog within a few days. My first sump section has a overflow incase socks get full. Also has a float switch so I get an alert.

I like the idea of float switch hadn't thought about that

was able to fit 5 - 4'' socks into sump design and entertaining float switch idea once I know what the normal water level will be in the filter sock area.
