I'm going to guess over a million. There's like 330,000,000 people in the US right? So, if even 0.5% of the population has a tank, that's nearly 2 million people. Wouldn't be hard to hit 1 mil IMO

It is an interesting question though - assume everyone bought product x - and assume product x had a need for an every 2 month product y. Or product x needed to be replenished every 3 months.....

My guess is well below 1 million, just based on cost! Maybe around 300,000-500,000 households have a reef tank? That is my guess.

You know what just hit me? The amount of turnover in the hobby has to keep suppliers and vendors busy. This hobby has a lot of people leaving after a few years I bet, but there are still new reefers who want to buy new to replace them.

I have mentioned on some posts that we have a niche market, and I still stand by that in the grand scheme of things (compared to other industries), but the turnover is probably very beneficial for manufacturers.

I just spent a little time researching this. The answer surprised me for sure. I can post a link if anyone is interested.
I can't wait for the answer, I have been googling it (after I voted) and I cannot find a solid answer.

Thats what 'no google' meant lol (or other research) - yet:)

That's why I didn't post the link;)

I've always kinda wondered about this. I'm not even positive the source I found is the best answer. This info isn't readily available from what I've found.

I was way off on my vote. I will say that:)
