So I am currently Redoing my sump set up for Triton and struggling to get near 10x turn over. I am currently getting about 5x turnover.

I was wondering if any of you are do 10x turnover?

How crucial is the 10x turn over?

Thanks for the help

Following because on the build I'm in the middle of planing in order to get 1800 gph at 18 feet is going to be expensive

Just get as much flow as you can.
It's meant to create an equilibrium of parameters between the sump and the display.
I tried for 10x but I doubt I'm there with all the restriction in my plumbing and I'll never truly know without a flow meter.

I have a sump in the basement and use two return pumps to the 120 gallon tank up stairs. I use two pumps in case one fails.
So, I bought a rubber hose to put onto one of the return nozzles to check the flow rate. The amount of time it takes to fill one gallon was 3 seconds. There are two return lines so every 3 seconds 2 gallons of water enter the show tank, which equals 1200 gallons per hour, the required 10% flow.

Great idea on the two pump method. I'm running a power hungry Mag 18 currently and it is sad how much flow loss I have. Seems like such a waste.

I'm using two abyzz A200. They are extremely expensive but, they make no noise and are very powerful. They are running at 70% and pump up to about 10 feet in hight to the tank.

One thing I've noticed is that a lot of people think they're getting much higher flow than they actually are and I think this is the reason for the 10x recommendation. I'm in the exact same boat as you and decided I'll shoot for 4-5x actual confirmed flow. I'm not actually running a tank yet though. If you know what you're doing with head loss calculations then go for 4-5x, if you don't then I would design it for 10x, and you'll actually get less.

Yeah I did actual output with a bucket and my actual output line at the tank. I was trying to figure out why my BeanAnimal siphon would not purge the air and discovered this.

Well after some experimenting and some WAY larger return piping I have been able to achieve ~900gph with my current MAG18 which is about 9X turn over. I am very happy with that and will leave it alone for now.

Good job. I found the same with some calculations. Using the same diameter as my pump outlet has way higher restriction than going with 2" pipe.
