This 100%.IME - the issue with light is not the absolute amount - its the speed of change. I dont know if there is any 'limit' as to what they can 'stand'. It might help if you had a par meter (lots of LFS offer them to borrow (or rent) - so that you can actually see what you're changing from. For example - if you look at my build thread (check the signature) - you will see a huge (its about 2 feet long) - piece of Green star polyp - which supposedly does best in 'low flow' and 'lower light' - when my lights are at their peak - they are at 700 PAR - and the GSP is fine - but it's used to it. A year ago - I traded some of it to my LFS - and it went from looking great to looking not so great - (in their tank) - because of lower light. Its all a matter of acclimation time IME.
Does the NY torch color up more at lower par because more zooxanthellae?I have my TSA Black Panther torch, aka NY Knicks in my SPS dominant tank and I have it in about 200 par. It went from a single head to around 14 now. I do feel that the color may have faded a little, but its just a response to the higher lighting. My torch has never shown any stress at all.
