Planning to sell this frogspawn/hammer/frammer coral colony before I move my aquarium. How much do you think I should sell it for if it has roughly 100 heads and I am most likely going to sell it as a colony, but not opposed to fragging it and selling them all at once. Not going to hold onto them.

Does it not care about dropping all over the skeleton like that?

You could try to sell to LFS and they’ll just frag it.

The bigger challenge outside of who buys it but rather how do you plan on removing it without it breaking apart.

I have two of similar size and it takes a lot of effort to remove it safely without breaking apart. Been there, done that.

Edit: as to price hard to say. Some won't tough it due to the space. Others may entertain but will just frag it. Doing that floods the market a bit locally so there is that to consider.

My store basically goes:

1. Figure out the frag price
2. Multiply it by the amount of frags
3. Multiply this by 0.4 for the colony
4. Apply the “wholesale” price

So they sell hammers for $20 CAD per head here.

$20 * 100 =$2,000.00
$2,000.00 * 0.4 =$800.00

I’d expect to get around $500-$600 CAD or so, maybe less since it would be hard for the store owner to sell so many of the same frag.

Yea I agree. That’s the problem. Tons of the same frag. You would need 100 people all wanting a green frammer and the first 5-20 will sell quick and then…you’re stuck with 80 frammers.

I would say to op, if you can get 500 or anything above 500, take it

That was during a water change. Doesn’t mind it since it’s only for about two minutes.
Interesting! I thought the rough skeleton would hurt the tissue if it just collapses.

I try to get them to retract so that he tissue stays in the head

Similar to rose bubble tip anemones you can't give them away once you reach large colony size or anemones that act like tribbles. I hate to admit it but sometimes I have to treat it like I do trimming a hedge. I really dislike it and it bothers me but LPS can get out of control and they just take up too much space once that happens.

Green waste it goes.

If you can get it to a chop shop they might give you something, especially if they are selling mail order.

Put that Super Ultimate Special Green Monster under total blues and every head can fetch 125$ and still the chop shop isn't going to give you much cash for it. I hope you can find someong local who wants the monster and has a huge tank to keep it growing in. GL

And Well done! Nice sized piece for a fairly small aquarium. !

Yeah, I know I’ll probably get more for it if I just trim it back, but I wanna try and get rid of most of it so that I don’t damage it during the move. It’s been a very hard Coral so I’m not too terribly worried.

I like this thinking, but I think 20 bucks a head would be a tough sell (at least here) from a hobbyist.

I actually just met a rich dude at my fav shop this past weekend, he told me he only buys big colonies and told me to contact him directly for any big colonies. I believe his reef his 800gals and even this colony would look small in there compared to some of his stuff. He won't even buy frags or any acros that are smaller than 10" or so wide lol.

OP you might be able to find someone like that locally if you advertise it on facebook or craigslist.

I sold one about that size and same color and I got $250 and it took awhile! Every market is different I’d say throw it up for $500 and see what offers you get! You def won’t get rich off it lol.

Thank yall for the feedback. I might consider fragging it and trimming the hedges like someone said above. It grows really well in my tank and probably can keep on making me money in the future.

Plus it’s a beautiful piece, I just went to go see the tank to take pictures of it so I can list it. Fortunate to have my system running completely by itself at my parents house and only needing to do water changes once every two weeks. Some people may kill me for that, but here’s the pictures I just got
