How often do you change your DOS heads?

I have had my DOS units in service over two years. They get banged on pretty hard. I just realized my fluoride hadn’t dosed in several weeks. The head finally failed. I’m guessing perhaps I should consider replacing the other 11 heads? I do recalibrate about every 3-4 months. Thoughts?

Is it an original DOS or the newer Quiet DOS?

Neptune states that the Quiet DOS heads should be replaced at 5000 hours of run time. I use my DOS for water changes, and they run for probably 6 hours a day. So for me, it would mean replacement at 2 1/4 years.

For some reason, my memory is telling me the original DOS only had a runtime of 700 (?) hours before they suggest changing out the heads, but I may be wrong on that.

I have both but the QDs I have are brand new and I just got them 2 months ago. That’s good to know. Sounds like I need to go find an instruction pdf.

I have the older units and have never replaced the heads in over 5 years lol. I use them for both AWCs and dosing 2 part.

Thanks. I’m hoping to find information about the longevity. I’m trying to figure out if I had a head go bad or if I need to go out and spend $400 on heads as I could be well well past the life expectancy of these heads. I have a feeling I got my moneys worth from these heads.

I definitely have more than 700 hours on one set of my heads, I just keep spares on hand personally. As long as mine keep calibrating correctly every few months I don't plan on replacing them. Also, since they come off so easy I try and inspect them every soft often.

The 5000 hour rating on the DOSQD is the stepper motor not the tubing.

The 700 hour rating on the tubing really is meaningless. The tube wears from being compressed over and over again not how many hours it is used for.

700 hours is about 29 days if running continuously, like if used on a calcium reactor as Neptune suggests it can be used on. Who wants to spend $35 a month replacing the DOS heads?

If you are running at 10ml/hour there is a LOT less wear on the head tubing than if it is running at 100ml/hour - It will wear out 10 times faster.

Replacement should be based on rotations or total volume transferred, not hours of use. IMO
